Poursuivie par une malade mentale, la petite Marième (12 ans) perd la vie
A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the HLM Route de Dakar neighborhood in Thiès. Young Marième Touré, only 12 years old, lost her life in tragic circumstances, plunging her family and the entire community into deep sorrow.
According to witness statements, the girl had gone for a walk with her friends near the neighborhood basketball court. It was there that they encountered a woman with mental health issues who was wandering in the area. According to the victim's mother, some of the girls provoked the woman before running away.
The situation quickly deteriorated when the mentally ill woman began chasing the children. Panicked, the small group scattered. During her frantic chase, young Marième fell heavily to the ground. Terrified, the little girl trembled violently before drawing her last breath, before the helpless eyes of her playmates.
"She had gone out with her friends. When the lady chased them, they all ran. My daughter fell and she was shaking until her last breath," said the victim's mother, her voice breaking with grief.
Devastated, this mother made an urgent appeal to the authorities. She pleaded for better support for people with mental health issues who wander the streets, in order to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
Beyond the emotion, this tragedy raises questions about safety in public spaces and underlines the need for increased collective vigilance as well as effective medical monitoring for vulnerable people.
