Pout : La poisse d'un talibé arrêté pour des oignons et trahi par un téléphone !
A 19-year-old talibé, A. Bâ, appeared this Monday, May 4, before the Thiès court of first instance for acts initially classified as theft of a mobile phone, before finally being reclassified as receiving stolen goods.
According to the indictment, the events date back to Pout, where the accused was initially arrested for stealing onions. However, during the investigation, security personnel discovered that he was in possession of a mobile phone that had been reported stolen.
The search led to the identification of the device's owner, a woman named L. Bâ, who had reported her phone missing. The young man was subsequently remanded in custody for theft.
In court, A. Bâ firmly denied the charges. He explained that he had bought the phone at the Diamniadio market from an unknown individual for 48,000 FCFA. He denied any involvement in the theft of the device.
Despite his explanations, the public prosecutor considered that the facts were established and requested the application of the law.
After reviewing the case, the court decided to reclassify the charges from theft to receiving stolen goods, considering that the defendant possessed stolen property without necessarily being the direct perpetrator. Found guilty of receiving stolen goods, A. Bâ was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, suspended.
