PRDC_VFS : Une cartographie participative pour renforcer les chaînes de valeur dans la vallée du fleuve Sénégal

The PRDC-VFS has undertaken, during 2025, an in-depth study on the rice, onion and tomato sectors, in consultation with all stakeholders—producers, government technical services, financial institutions and the private sector. The objective: to better understand local dynamics and identify priority intervention levers for sustainable economic development in the Senegal River Valley.

Chairing a sharing and consultation workshop this Tuesday, the program coordinator, Mamadou Diédhiou, praised the strong mobilization of the stakeholders and recalled "the key role of the PRDC in the socio-economic transformation of the valley."

Now attached to the Ministry of Infrastructure, with the Emergency Program for the Modernization of Border Axes and Territories (PUMA) as the anchor technical agency, the PRDC relies on a participatory approach involving in particular the SAED, the DRDR, the ANCAR and several other partners.

For Mr. Diédhiou, this mapping constitutes "an essential step" before any intervention on the ground. It will make it possible to establish a precise diagnosis of local realities and to define a clear roadmap for supporting the three targeted sectors, with a possible extension of the study to other areas, notably Bakel.

A regional project carried out in partnership with Mauritania, the PRDC extends until 2029. It aims to sustainably strengthen the economic and social resilience of the populations living in the Senegal River Valley.

"We have high expectations for this roadmap, as it will help us effectively plan actions and mobilize the necessary resources to support producers," the coordinator concluded.
