Propreté urbaine : le PRDC-VF dote la commune de Saint-Louis de 11 tricycles
The municipality of Saint-Louis has reached a new milestone in improving its living environment. The Senegal River Valley Community Resilience and Development Project (PRDC-VF) officially handed over 11 tricycles to strengthen the pre-collection of household waste, for the benefit of the town hall.
Present at the ceremony, Ibrahima Kane, head of monitoring and evaluation for the PRDC-VF, noted that Saint-Louis is one of the 44 municipalities supported by the project in the Senegal River Valley. "This is an extremely important municipality for us, as it houses the project headquarters," he emphasized, on behalf of coordinator Mamadou Diedhiou, who is currently on assignment in the area.
Implemented by the State of Senegal under the supervision of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the PRDC-VF benefits from a total budget of 90 billion CFA francs, with support from the World Bank. Launched in 2024 for a period of five years (2024-2029), the program covers the regions of Saint-Louis, Matam, and Bakel (Tambacounda region), through agreements signed with all the mayors of the beneficiary municipalities.
“For the year 2024, the municipality of Saint-Louis has identified two priority sub-projects: the construction of four schools and the acquisition of 11 tricycles, for an amount of 22 million FCFA. In total, 110 million FCFA was injected into the municipality in 2024. In addition, there is a notification of 610 million FCFA for 2025, intended to finance actions in several key sectors: environment, education, health, including the renovation of health posts, the rehabilitation of the Ablaye Diagne stadium, as well as community centers,” indicated Ibrahima Kane.
The PRDC-VF monitoring and evaluation officer commended the municipality's commitment to a participatory process involving community stakeholders, neighborhood representatives, and state technical services. "The meticulous adherence to this approach explains the relevance of the choices made," he emphasized, announcing the establishment of management committees to ensure the long-term maintenance of the facilities.
For his part, Mayor Mansour Faye welcomed this support, which strengthens the municipal sanitation policy. "These 11 tricycles, intended for GETOM, which is responsible for pre-collection, will reinforce our 'Ndar Set Wecc' program, which is already satisfying the population," he declared, while thanking the partners, notably SONAGED and PRDC-VF.
Calling on the beneficiaries to make good use of it, the mayor reaffirmed his ambition to make Saint-Louis an ever cleaner, more sustainable and greener city, thanks to continuous investments in waste management and the urban environment.
