Randonnée de l'UMS : la Gendarmerie nationale marche aux côtés de la magistrature sénégalaise
The National Gendarmerie took part this Saturday in the hike organized by the Union of Magistrates of Senegal (UMS), an initiative which illustrates the quality of relations between the security forces and the actors of justice, according to Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.
A march held under the chairmanship of the UMS
Under the chairmanship of Cheikh Ba, president of the UMS (Union of Military States), numerous civil and military authorities gathered to walk together through the streets of Dakar's Plateau district. The route, starting at the Dakar Courthouse at Cap Manuel, passed through several emblematic sites in the heart of the capital's administrative and institutional center, including the Old Courthouse, the Administrative Building, the National Assembly, the Sokhamon Hotel, and the Court of Auditors, before bringing the participants back to their starting point. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the historic Cap Manuel Courthouse served as both the starting and finishing point for this day dedicated to institutional fraternity.
A moving tribute to a deceased magistrate
Beyond the sporting and convivial nature of the event, the hike also provided a particularly moving moment of reflection. A solemn tribute was paid to Madame Dieynaba Hanne Sow, a magistrate who passed away in 2014, in the presence of her family. This gesture of remembrance and recognition served as a reminder that behind every institution are men and women whose dedication deserves to be honored.
Much more than just a walk
Walking through the streets of the Plateau district was more than just a group exercise. Following a route that highlighted the major buildings representing Senegal's political, administrative, and judicial power, participants experienced a true immersion in Dakar's history. Each building they passed served as a reminder of the fundamental role these institutions played in shaping the Senegalese state.
By participating in this hike, the National Gendarmerie reaffirmed its commitment to solidarity among state bodies, strengthening institutional cohesion, and promoting social cohesion. A simple yet meaningful message: justice and security go hand in hand, according to the National Gendarmerie spokesperson.
