Rapatriement d'objets historiques depuis la France : Thierno Madani Mountata Tall plaide la reconnaissance historique
In a message addressed to the Senegalese community of Le Havre on Sunday, December 21, Khalif Thierno Madani Mountata Tall praised the organization of a historical exhibition made possible by the openness of local authorities. This initiative allowed younger generations to discover objects confiscated in Ségou during the colonial period.
The caliph recalled that this memorial process saw a major advance in 2021, with the return to Senegal of the sword of El Hadj Omar Tall, described as a "highly symbolic act" reflecting "the evolution of consciousness and the openness of France to the question of African heritage".
Speaking of the struggle waged by Senegalese riflemen for freedom, the religious leader emphasized the deep ties between Senegal and France. Thierno Madani Mountata Tall called for viewing this history "with lucidity and discernment," in order to overcome the wounds of the past and "work together for truth and dignity."
