The recruitment of young people from the commune of Thiadiaye, in the context of the operation of the MFK highway, particularly on the Mbour - Thiadiaye section, is causing a heated controversy.

Opened a few weeks ago, this section is now fueling frustrations and misunderstandings among several young people in the area who hoped to join the operating teams after having undergone prior training.

Indeed, since 2024, nine young people from Thiadiaye had been selected and trained as part of the project. Some had even participated in the various phases of technical trials organized during the past year.

For the local population, this approach represented a recognition of the involvement of local authorities in this major infrastructure project.

But at the end of the final recruitment process, only three or four candidates were ultimately selected, without any official explanation of the criteria used. This situation is fueling questions and a sense of injustice within the community.

Faced with this controversy, the mayor of Thiadiaye had also contacted the Director General of Highways of Senegal (ADS) to draw his attention to what he describes as a "worrying" situation.

In his correspondence, the mayor points out that "the State being a continuous entity," the expectations raised among the young people concerned cannot be ignored without risking social unrest. He also emphasizes the importance of localizing jobs in major infrastructure projects located within local communities.

"The territorialization of jobs is not only a strong social requirement, but also an essential factor in the stability, acceptability and sustainability of investments," he stressed.

The mayor thus invited the authorities to examine "ways to better take into account these young people initially trained and engaged in the process", who were allegedly replaced, according to some sources, "on unorthodox grounds".

According to him, such an approach would help preserve "justice, social balance" and strengthen "the territorial anchoring of the project".
