Restitution des œuvres africaines : Le khalife Thierno Madani Mountaga Tall salue une « avancée historique »
Caliph Thierno Madani Mountaga Tall welcomed the adoption by the French National Assembly of a law facilitating the restitution of African artworks looted during colonization. He described the decision as a "historic step forward" and a "promise of justice and remembrance."
In a statement imbued with spirituality, the leader of the Umarian community gave thanks to Allah for this act, which he considers to be far more than a mere legal measure. "This is a movement of justice, truth, and reparation," he affirmed, emphasizing that the memory of peoples cannot be confiscated indefinitely.
This stance comes in a context marked by the recent visit to France of the caliph, during which the question of the restitution of the Umarid heritage occupied a central place.
According to him, this approach is part of a spiritual responsibility aimed at preserving and transmitting a historical and religious heritage to future generations.
At the heart of this issue lies the legacy of El Hadj Oumar Tall, comprising more than 418 manuscripts as well as art and war artifacts taken from Ségou in 1890 during the colonial conquest. For the Caliph, these objects constitute living witnesses to an invaluable spiritual, intellectual, and historical legacy.
"These manuscripts carry the thoughts of a man of faith, an educator and a resistance fighter, whose message remains highly relevant today," he recalled.
The gradual return of this heritage is seen as a major opportunity for African youth, who are invited to reconnect with their roots and better understand the spiritual foundations of their history.
A dynamic which, according to Thierno Madani Mountaga Tall, opens the way to a reconciliation with the past, under the sign of justice and memory.
The caliph finally offered prayers that this restitution process would continue under the best conditions and bring blessings to present and future generations.
