Révision constitutionnelle : Création du mouvement « Aar Sunu République » par l'opposition et la société civile
Faced with the Pastef parliamentary majority's intention to pass a bill amending the Constitution, resistance is organizing outside the National Assembly. A major meeting bringing together all the nation's key stakeholders was held this morning, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in premises located on the VDN (Voie de Dégagement Nord).
This meeting resulted in the creation of a unified and inclusive framework called the Aar Sunu République Movement. This large-scale coalition has the sole objective of fighting to preserve the foundations of the Republic and countering any attempt at a unilateral revision of the fundamental charter. The structure brings together a wide range of actors, from major civil society organizations to political parties of all persuasions.
The movement's launch was marked by the presence of prominent figures from the Senegalese public scene. From civil society, leading entities such as COSCE, Africa Jom Center, the Forum du Justiciable, the Forum Civil, as well as feminist organizations and independent figures responded to the call.
The meeting saw the active participation of opinion leaders and civil society representatives such as Alioune Tine, Moundiaye Cissé, Babacar Ba, and Matar Sall of the Civil Forum. Leading political and parliamentary figures were also present, including lawyer Oumar Youm and MPs Thierno Alassane Sall, Abdou Mbow, and Mbaye Dione. Finally, several other prominent figures such as Talla Sylla, Babacar Gaye, Momar Samb, Moussa Tine, Thierno Bocoum, Seydou Guèye, and Judge Ibrahima Dème sat alongside members of the Front for the Defense of the Republic (FDR) and opposition parties not aligned with the FDR.
The Aar Sunu République Movement is wasting no time in implementing its action plan. The leaders of this new coalition will meet with journalists tomorrow, Sunday, at 11:00 AM at the Abass Sall Residence.
This first official press conference will allow the movement to speak in detail on current national political events and to outline its strategy of protest against the proposed constitutional law put forward by the majority.
