Sabotage de pneu, vol par ruse et course-poursuite : comment un braquage a été déjoué en plein cœur de Dakar
In Dakar, a robbery of 80 million CFA francs was thwarted in broad daylight thanks to the vigilance of the victim and the intervention of passersby. The perpetrators, two foreign nationals, used the so-called "flat tire" technique.
According to the account in L'Observateur, which broke the story, the victim, a merchant named Y. Hane, had just withdrawn 100 million CFA francs from the Ecobank Senegal headquarters. While driving, he noticed something amiss with his vehicle and stopped to investigate. He then discovered that his right rear wheel had been sabotaged. Taking advantage of this moment of inattention, the two individuals on a motorcycle who were following him opened the opposite door and stole one of the bags containing 80 million CFA francs.
Alerted by the scene, according to the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias, the shopkeeper gave chase, calling for help. The thieves were eventually intercepted by motorists at a traffic light on the BRT route. The bag containing the money was recovered undamaged.
The two suspects, residents of Parcelles Assainies (Unit 26), have been identified. They are O. Osunwa, a 41-year-old unemployed Nigerian, and J. Mmadu, a 31-year-old Ghanaian delivery driver. Taken to the Grand-Dakar police station, they confessed to the crime and were placed in custody for "criminal conspiracy and theft by deception." The investigation is ongoing to determine any possible accomplices, the same source concluded.
