Arrested in Rosso, on the border with Mauritania, T. Sow was handed over to the Saint-Louis regional branch of the National Division for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Related Practices (DNLT). He was brought before the Saint-Louis prosecutor's office on charges of forgery, use of forged documents, and identity theft. His offense, according to investigators: he was traveling with a fake Mauritian passport, issued in the name of Gabriel Sow, born on April 12, 1985, in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius.
According to Libération, which broke the story, police checks revealed that the suspect holds a Senegalese national identity card and was born in 1982 in Dakar. "Faced with this discovery, he confessed that T. Sow is his real identity and that Gabriel Sow was simply a name he had suggested to the person who produced his passport, known as Aboo A. He added that he had spent two million CFA francs to obtain the Mauritian passport in question," the newspaper reports.
T. Sow, the same source continues, revealed that he met Aboo A. on Facebook and that they continued their exchanges on WhatsApp, noting that the latter used a Turkish phone number. When the document was drawn up, he received it by express delivery, Libération adds.
