A land dispute is shaking the commune of Sangalkam. Thirty-nine families, grouped within the Collective of land buyers in Keur Daouda Sarr, are denouncing what they describe as a scandal involving Mayor Pape Sow and are calling on the State to act without delay.
According to the group, the families legally acquired a two-hectare plot of land for 80 million CFA francs from the Ngor-Ouakam-Yoff Drivers' Collective. Checks with the relevant authorities (town hall, land registry, urban planning) reportedly confirmed the validity of the title deed and the absence of any dispute.
A suspected double sale
Despite these precautions, the buyers claim to have discovered that their site has been occupied by third parties claiming to have purchased it from the mayor of Sangalkam. The mayor allegedly claimed to have acquired the land after the collective's purchase, through a real estate company run by his brother, offering a higher price. "This is an attempt at land grabbing based on a double sale," the collective denounces.
Controversial intervention by DSCOS
The Directorate for Land Use Monitoring and Control (DSCOS), having been notified of the matter, ordered a halt to the work and made arrests. However, the collective denounces the resumption of activities on the site, despite the official decision, and the removal of the stop-work markers.
The families are expressing their concern about what they consider to be the manipulation of political authority. Statements attributed to the mayor, suggesting his close ties to those in power, reinforce, in their view, a sense of injustice and impunity. They point out that they filed a complaint nearly two years ago, which has gone unanswered.
The demands of the collective
Faced with this situation, the group calls for the immediate opening of an independent investigation; demands the definitive cessation of all activity on the disputed site; calls for the protection of the rights of the 39 affected families; calls on the government to uphold the authority of the State and the rule of law.
While reaffirming its confidence in the institutions of the Republic, the group reserves the right to take any legal action to defend its interests.
