Saraya : La DPAF inaugure un poste de contrôle frontalier à Faranding pour renforcer la sécurité

This Friday, August 29, 2025, the village of Faranding, located on the banks of the Falémé River on the border between Senegal and Mali, inaugurated a border checkpoint, marking a decisive step in securing this sensitive area. Long confronted with insecurity and uncontrolled passage of people and goods, this locality, a cultural melting pot between locals and foreigners, sees this system as a response to security challenges and an opportunity for development.

Faranding, in Saraya Department, has been the scene of tensions in the past, notably in 2024, when a woman was killed by a stray bullet during an attack, plunging the community into anguish. The installation of this post, the result of the security network strategy of the Air and Border Police Directorate (DPAF), aims to regulate cross-border flows and restore security.

This initiative is part of a series of establishments of outposts in strategic areas of Senegal, strengthening border control. "We have been waiting for this day impatiently. Faranding had become an uncontrolled corridor. From now on, the entrances and exits will be monitored, which will reassure the population," declared Diatiba Cissoko, village chief, during the inauguration ceremony.

Emotions ran high among the residents, many of whom welcomed the authorities' commitment. Fily Cissoko, president of the Faranding youth movement, expressed his gratitude: "We thank the authorities for thinking of us, as well as the diligence of the DPAF and the head of the Moussala border sector." Beyond the security aspect, this post is seen as a lever for economic development. "With the presence of security forces, we hope that economic activities will flourish and that Faranding will become a safe hub for cross-border trade," added Fily Cissoko.

Resident Awa Diallo shared her relief: "We can finally sleep peacefully, without fear of criminals." This inauguration illustrates the Senegalese authorities' desire to bring the state closer to citizens, particularly in remote areas. By securing Faranding, the DPAF aims to transform this border point into a space of stability and economic dynamism, turning the page on a period marked by insecurity.
