Scandale au Tribunal de Mbour : le gardien des scellés se servait dans la caisse, 11,5 millions F CFA volatilisés
The Mbour court is in turmoil. N. Ndao, a prison officer and former secretary to the prosecutor, appeared in court this Tuesday, March 10. He is accused of having abused his position to embezzle massive amounts of funds from the court between 2024 and early 2026.
According to the court proceedings reported by L'Observateur, the defendant had privileged access to the registration office and the prosecutor's office. He took advantage of this to embezzle several types of funds: bail paid by defendants to obtain provisional release, cash contained in sealed evidence belonging to detainees—including 500,000 FCFA stolen from a single case—as well as sums deposited to avoid imprisonment for debt.
The scandal broke in January 2026. A woman, P. Guèye, discovered that a relative remained imprisoned despite having paid over 3 million CFA francs for his release. The money having "vanished" from the official records, she alerted the court president. The investigation, entrusted to the Saly Research Brigade, ultimately revealed a total loss of 11.5 million CFA francs, according to the daily newspaper of the Futurs Médias Group.
In court, N. Ndao admitted to all the charges, citing "life difficulties" he encountered in 2024 and stating that he intended to repay the debt before being exposed. The prosecutor, denouncing a betrayal of trust placed in a member of the justice system, requested a two-year prison sentence for his former associate.
The court adjourned the case for deliberation until March 17, the same source concluded.
