Formation sécurité au travail CSS à Kaolack
The Occupational Risk Prevention Department of Senegal's Social Security Agency (CSS) has established technical committees for the bakery sector in Kaolack. The initiative brought together 40 participants, with 25 from Kaolack and 15 from Diourbel.
Cheikh Makébé Sylla, Director of Occupational Risk Prevention, explained: "We support both workers and employers in occupational health and safety matters to prevent workplace accidents and occupational illnesses. To achieve this, we conduct regular visits to businesses to inspect working conditions, then bring stakeholders together to identify potential hazards. This allows us to address all associated risks and propose preventive measures, ultimately improving workplace quality of life and boosting productivity."
He revealed that over three billion CFA francs (approximately $5 million) are spent annually on compensating victims of workplace accidents and occupational diseases. According to Sylla, this three-day training program for bakery sector stakeholders could significantly reduce these financial burdens.
"From 2015 to present, workplace accidents have decreased dramatically. While even one accident is too many, we've reduced annual cases from 2,000-2,500 victims down to 940. By developing additional strategies, we aim to achieve our ultimate goal of zero accidents," he stated.
