Sédhiou : 80 kg de chanvre indien saisis par l’OCRTIS
The Regional Narcotics Brigade (BRS) of Sédhiou, under the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS), made a major drug seizure this Saturday, March 21, 2026, in the southern region of Senegal.
The operation took place in Niadième, a town located approximately 15 kilometers from Marsassoum. It followed the exploitation of operational intelligence indicating an attempted drug trafficking operation in the area. According to security sources, the traffickers planned to take advantage of the approaching Korité festival to move their merchandise, counting on a possible relaxation of controls during this period of religious fervor.
A nighttime chase
Around 3:00 a.m., officers intercepted a motorcycle speeding and carrying a suspicious cargo. The driver, refusing to comply with police orders, attempted to force his way through the checkpoint. Faced with the officers' resistance, he finally turned back, abandoned the vehicle and the cargo, and fled into the bush under cover of darkness.
A search of the six bags left at the scene revealed 80 one-kilogram blocks of Indian hemp, totaling 80 kg of the so-called "green" variety. The TVS motorcycle and the seized drugs were placed under seal.
An investigation has been opened and is actively continuing with a view to identifying and arresting the suspect who is on the run, as well as any possible accomplices involved in this trafficking network.
