Sékhoto en flammes : 17 habitations détruites et deux blessés graves dans un violent incendie

A fire of unusual intensity plunged the village of Sékhoto, in the commune of Missirah Sirimana (Saraya department), into devastation early Friday morning, April 17. The blaze, whose origin remains undetermined, caused significant material damage and left two people seriously injured.

A rude awakening in panic

It was around 6 a.m. when residents were awakened by alarming crackling sounds and flames already visible. According to several eyewitness accounts, the fire started in an illegal bar located very close to the houses.

“We were woken up by the sound of flames. When we went outside, everything was already burning,” said a resident, still in shock. Very quickly, a network of solidarity formed in the village. Men, women, and young people mobilized with whatever resources they had to try to contain the fire.

Uncontrollable flames

Despite these efforts, the fire spread rapidly. Fanned by a favorable wind, the flames quickly gained ground, reducing seventeen (17) huts to ashes. In a matter of minutes, entire families lost their homes and most of their belongings.

The casualty report indicates two seriously injured individuals who received emergency treatment. Initially evacuated to the Diakhaling health post, the victims were subsequently transferred to the Kédougou regional hospital for appropriate care.

Significant material losses

In addition to the destroyed homes, the disaster claimed several valuable possessions. Two motorcycles, two generators, and an estimated 15,000 CFA francs were among the losses. The affected families are devastated and urgently need assistance.

An investigation has been opened

Alerted, security authorities went to the scene to carry out the usual procedures. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the fire and identify its origin.

While awaiting the conclusions, Sékhoto is licking its wounds. The population, still in shock, is calling for urgent solidarity to help the victims, now homeless.
