Their role within the administrative structures is fundamental. Indeed, inventory accountants ensure the traceability, monitoring, control, and management of state assets. Today, they have decided to take a new step. This Saturday, they established the Association of Inventory Accountants of Senegal during a founding general assembly held this Saturday.

"This association will have the mission of taking into account all the concerns of the material accountants of Senegal: through continuing education, through advocacy for the creation of a specific body of material accountants and also the establishment of a real responsibility allowance for all material accountants," says Omar Dramé, who has been put in charge of the structure.

The association's president stated that they had been assigned responsibilities without being provided with the necessary resources for monitoring them. This occurred despite the fact that current regulations clearly define the role of materials accountants. "Just like the public accountant, we too must be taken into account by those in power," he indicated.

The association plans to send letters to the authorities on this matter. It states that the current regime has chosen to rationalize public resources. However, Mr. Dramé and his colleagues believe this cannot be effective without raising the status of the inventory accounting profession.

"The authorities must understand that they cannot entrust us with heavy responsibilities when our financial and civil liability is fully engaged. Today, a materials accountant who makes a mistake in the performance of their duties is liable to imprisonment. It is therefore essential that the materials accountant be protected," he said.

Mr. Dramé and his colleagues believe they must therefore be protected and have their status increased. This would be achieved through the creation of a dedicated body and through compensation. "Our last compensation payment dates back to 1975, more than 50 years ago. It's time to increase it," he insists.
