Tabaski : la Police nationale alerte contre les arnaques en ligne sur la vente de moutons
As Tabaski approaches, the National Police are warning the public about a resurgence of online scams related to the sale of sheep and various items on social networks.
She reports that malicious individuals are using platforms like Facebook, TikTok and Instagram to offer sheep and various items at particularly attractive prices in order to attract buyers.
Police have learned that the modus operandi is often the same. According to them, the fraudsters demand full payment or a deposit via mobile money transfer services, claiming to want to reserve or deliver the order. Once the money is received, they cut off all contact with the victims and become unreachable.
Security forces emphasize that festive periods favor this type of scam through three psychological mechanisms: urgency with so-called limited offers; emotion linked to the spirit of celebration and generosity; and distraction caused by the strong pressure of preparations.
Faced with this situation, the police are calling on citizens to exercise the utmost vigilance and recommend in particular never sending money to a seller met only online; favouring physical transactions after checking the merchandise or livestock; and being wary of offers deemed too tempting.
Finally, she invites anyone who is a victim or witness of an attempted fraud to quickly contact the relevant authorities.
