Transporteurs routiers Sénégal - levée de grève UCRAO Tambacounda
The strike call by transport workers was suspended following a meeting between the Minister of Transport, his counterpart at the Interior Ministry and the Federation of trade unions in the sector.
The Union of Road Transport Drivers of West Africa, Senegal section, through Inspector Modou Kayré, announced on Friday that it had decided to lift the strike it had been observing since March 30.
"The President of the Republic received the federation's leaders late Thursday evening," an audience during which President Bassirou Diomaye Faye promised a meeting this Friday between the strikers and the Ministers of Transport and the Interior.
Mr. Kayré added that following this meeting, the Federation of Road Transport Unions of Senegal decided to lift its strike order, stating that "immediate gains" had been obtained by the transporters.
The administrator of UCRAO Senegal specifically mentioned the lifting of the ban on transport vehicles circulating at night and the removal of certain roadside checkpoints. He also urged his colleagues to be more vigilant and to respect the highway code in light of the numerous accidents recorded in recent days.
