Tambacounda : un malade mental arrêté pour viol
On September 8, the Tambacounda gendarmerie arrested Thierno Shakir D., a 22-year-old mentally ill man, for rape. The incident occurred after he escaped while traveling to a psychiatric center with his father.
Determined to return to Dakar alone, he was kicked off a bus due to his behavior and his inability to pay his fare. While walking along the side of the road near the village of Sare Gayo, he sexually assaulted Aissatou C.
Alerted by a young witness, the public intervened to restrain the attacker while waiting for the police to arrive. Taken into custody, he admitted the facts while making incoherent remarks. According to L'Observateur, he allegedly stated that he wanted to "satisfy his curiosity to sleep with a woman," before claiming that he was "Adam" and that he was on earth to "accomplish a mission."
He was finally brought before the Tambacounda public prosecutor's office, adds the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.

Longtemps en Afrique, et jusqu'à maintenant, l'homme noir afro-caraïbéen ne croit pas aux maladies mentales. Ils rattachent toujours cette "pathologie" à des phénomènes surnaturelles en rapport avec les jinnés. Ici au Sénégal c'est pire, car beaucoup de dépréssifs sont accusés de faire du "Réwondé et/ou du Tapeulé". Ce qui fait que même quand ils commettent des fautes, ils sont durement sanctionnés.
