Tambacounda : Un professeur de français tombe pour trafic de migrants
As part of the fight against irregular migration and in accordance with the instructions of the Director General of the National Police, Mame Seydou Ndour, the Tambacounda branch of the National Division for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Related Practices (DNLT) arrested a French teacher who was simultaneously engaged in the criminal activity of facilitating clandestine travel. He was brought before the Tambacounda prosecutor's office.
This French teacher, B. Dabo, 41 years old and residing in the Plateau district of Tambacounda, was leading a double life. Behind his blackboard and in his classrooms, he was also active as a facilitator in an international migrant smuggling network, promising would-be migrants clandestine passage to Spain by sea, according to Seneweb sources close to the prosecutor's office.
An organized scam involving Tambacounda, Dakar, Mauritania and Saint-Louis
It all started with a denunciation. Two foreign nationals, P. Agbley, of Ghanaian nationality, and CG Udo, of Nigerian nationality, contacted the DNLT office in Tambacounda against a certain Kékouta, alias B. Dabo. They stated that they had been recruited by a Ghanaian woman with the initial "I.", who had promised them a trip to Spain by sea, for 800,000 CFA francs each, or 1,600,000 CFA francs in total.
The scam is well-rehearsed. The two women are first taken to Mauritania, where they wait for nearly four months without any departure being organized. Penniless and distraught, they are then moved to Dakar, where I. introduces them to B. Dabo as the main organizer of the trip. It is at this point that they hand over their money directly. They are then taken to Tambacounda, to Dabo's home, awaiting a departure scheduled for Saint-Louis in February 2026.
In the old town, they were housed with a certain B. for two months, before being simply abandoned there, without money or any prospect of travel.
After two months of endless waiting, the two women returned to Tambacounda to find their swindlers. I. had already fled. Only Dabo was found at his home. Cornered, he was forced to take them in until he could repay them.
Based on this tip, officers from the Surveillance, Interrogation, and Tracking Unit of the DNLT (National Directorate for the Fight Against Terrorism) in Tambacounda set up surveillance around the suspect's home in the Plateau neighborhood. B. Dabo was arrested at his residence and taken to the station for questioning.
The confessions recorded in the official report
In his official statement, he admitted to having sheltered the two women on the instructions of his accomplice, a certain S., based in Spain and an organizer of clandestine journeys. He acknowledged that it was S. who put him in contact with I. to find a pirogue and other candidates for emigration to Spain.
Regarding the money, Dabo denies having received the funds directly from the two women, claiming to have received only 785,000 CFA francs from I. to cover accommodation costs. He specifies that he reinvested part of this sum in his poultry business and used the remainder for his sick daughter's medical care.
Regarding his involvement in the network, he admits to having already participated twice in clandestine expeditions with a certain SSK, also based in Spain. The first attempt failed and resulted in his imprisonment in Diourbel. The second, more recent attempt was successful for K., who managed to smuggle other individuals into Spain.
He further acknowledges that two other Ghanaian nationals had transited through Tambacounda before being transported to Rufisque, whose exact address he says he does not know.
At the end of the investigation, B. Dabo was presented to the public prosecutor at the Tambacounda High Court for criminal association and travel fraud.
