The Saly Research Brigade (BR), under the Mbour gendarmerie company, has dealt a definitive blow to a gang of criminals who were terrorizing the area between Saly and Popenguine. Six individuals have been brought before the Mbour prosecutor's office on charges of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and the use of vehicles and bladed weapons.

A violent attack at dawn

Everything changed at dawn on Saturday, April 25, 2026. After a night spent hanging out in Saly nightclubs, a group of young men riding Jakarta motorcycles decided to act on their way home. Near Popenguine, they targeted Mr. A. Gueye. According to Seneweb sources close to the prosecutor's office, the assailants did not hesitate to violently ram his motorcycle, causing him to fall.

While the victim was on the ground, defenseless, one of the assailants, MS   D. brandished a machete to seize the device. His escape was short-lived, however: intercepted by witnesses, he was handed over to the Sindia gendarmerie.

The domino effect and the searches

Having confessed, MSD denounced his accomplices. The following Monday, a large-scale operation led by the Saly BR (Brigade de Recherches - Research Brigade) resulted in the arrest of AS and several other members of the network at a car wash.

The searches proved fruitful. In the gang's hideout, as well as at the homes of MN and P. D. , investigators discovered a veritable arsenal and damning evidence:

• Bladed weapons (machetes);

• Fairings from stolen motorcycles;

• Various administrative vehicle documents.

A desperate attempt to conceal the evidence

The investigation also revealed the involvement of Mr. D. , a shopkeeper and member of the network. While the police had sealed off the room used as a hideout, he, accompanied by an accomplice who fled, attempted to break the locks to retrieve incriminating items.

Caught by neighbors during their escape, MD was apprehended. Although he denies the charges, his ties to A.S.'s gang have been established.

The profiles of those implicated

The six individuals brought before prosecutor Augustin Yakhar Faye are:

• MS D. ( 24 years old), driver;

• AS (24 years old), unemployed;

• P. D. ( 24 years old), motorcycle mechanic;

• N. D. ( 31 years old), scrap metal dealer;

• Mr. N. ( 30 years old), farmer;

• Mr. D. ( 26 years old), shopkeeper.

A final suspect, identified as YS, is actively being sought by security services. The six defendants are now in jail awaiting trial.
