TGI de Fatick : Offre ou cession de drogue, deux tourtereaux impliqués
A case involving two lovers, AO Kane and D. Ba, has landed in the Fatick Magistrates' Court. The accused are being prosecuted for criminal conspiracy and offering or supplying drugs for consumption.
According to the investigation, the two lovers, with the help of an accomplice, are accused of buying ecstasy pills in Gambia with the intention of reselling them in Mbour. A sum of 129,000 CFA francs was spent on the drugs. Their plan failed, however, when they were arrested in Karang upon their return.
In this case, D. Ba, a minor born in 2009, did not appear in court. Her partner, AO Kane, however, did appear before the judge.
In court, he attempted to downplay the events, claiming he had accompanied his girlfriend to Gambia for a simple visit, but also to purchase weight-gain medication. "I'm a trainee driver and I don't have any money. I was accompanying D. Ba to Gambia so she could buy weight-gain medication, not drugs," he stated, maintaining that he had been tricked. He also claimed that his girlfriend had covered the travel expenses as well as the cost of renting the apartment where they stayed.
These statements were, however, refuted by D. Ba, who testified as a witness. “AO Kane sends me money to keep in my Wave account. This money was used to pay for the trip. He suggested I go to Gambia for a visit. I didn't know the exact purpose of the trip,” she stated, denying any involvement. She did, however, assert in court that AO Kane is involved in drug trafficking.
Faced with these contradictory versions, the court noted that the statements made at the hearing differed significantly from those collected during the preliminary investigation, an element which did not work in favour of the defendant.
Found guilty, AO Kane was sentenced to two years in prison, along with a fine of 388,500 CFA francs.
