Tgi/Fatick : un chauffeur de taxi condamné à deux ans ferme pour vol de moutons
A taxi driver, identified by the initials A. Dione, was tried by the Fatick High Court for a sheep theft case.
The events date back to the disappearance of several head of cattle belonging to a breeder named A Ka. The latter, having seen the driver several times in his village (Gossas), quickly became suspicious of him.
In court, the defendant denied any involvement. However, his statements, deemed contradictory, weakened his defense.
During the preliminary investigation, A. Dionne claimed he had simply transported a client to Mbar, in the Gossas department. On the return journey, he was allegedly approached by a man he did not know, named Talla Gueye, who asked him to give him a ride with a sheep.
But, during his hearing before the court, he changed his story, this time declaring that he knew Talla Gueye.
Continuing his story, he explained that he had parked his vehicle while waiting for the man to return with the animal he claimed to have bought. He then stated that shepherds armed with machetes had attacked them, forcing Talla Gueye to flee.
Explanations that failed to convince the court.
In his closing arguments, the prosecutor stated that the facts were sufficiently established. He requested a two-year prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 FCFA.
The court followed these recommendations, sentencing A. Dione to two years in prison and a fine of 500,000 FCFA. He will also have to pay 700,000 FCFA in damages to the plaintiff.
