Thiès : accusés de cambriolage nocturne, deux hommes relaxés au bénéfice du doute
A. Sarr, a mechanic, and M. Gadiaga, a motorcycle taxi driver, appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses on charges of aggravated burglary committed at night. They were suspected of having broken into S. Sow's store, located in Notto Gouye Diama, and of having stolen 60,000 FCFA as well as various other items.
According to the investigation, the two defendants arrived at the scene in the middle of the night on a motorcycle. They allegedly forced open the store door and stole the goods. Their presence was reportedly reported by a member of the neighborhood watch committee, who immediately alerted other residents.
The witness, Mr. Ndiaye, explained in court that he had chased the suspects in his vehicle. According to him, they took refuge in a house where they were surrounded before the arrival of the gendarmes, who then arrested them.
At the hearing, A. Sarr and M. Gadiaga firmly denied the charges, claiming they had been wrongfully arrested at their homes. For his part, the victim, S. Sow, confirmed the burglary, stating that he was informed after the fact. He sought 160,000 FCFA in damages.
The public prosecutor, considering the facts established, had requested a sentence of two years imprisonment, including eight months of mandatory imprisonment.
After deliberation, the court finally acquitted the two defendants, finding that doubt remained as to their involvement in the events.
