Thiès : deux coépouses condamnées après une bagarre
The Thiès court of first instance judged O. Ciss and N. Niang on Monday, who were being prosecuted for mutual intentional assault and battery.
According to the case file, the two women, who were co-wives, injured each other during an altercation at their home. Following the incident, they were arrested and later released on bail.
At the hearing, only O. Ciss, presented as the second wife, appeared before the court. In her version of events, she explained that she was doing laundry when her co-wife came and made derogatory remarks to her. She claims she asked her to stop before the situation escalated.
According to her statements, N. Niang then attacked her, leading to a violent fight between the two women. The confrontation resulted in injuries on both sides, requiring medical attention.
After the incident, both individuals went to a medical facility for treatment. Armed with a medical certificate, N. Niang filed a complaint against her co-wife. O. Ciss, in turn, filed a counter-complaint with the relevant authorities.
Believing that responsibilities were shared, the prosecution requested the application of the law.
After deliberation, the court found the two co-wives guilty of mutual assault and battery. They were each sentenced to pay a fine of 20,000 CFA francs.
The judge also recommended that they prioritize dialogue and peaceful coexistence, warning them that in the event of a repeat offense, they could face more severe sanctions, including a prison sentence.
