Thiès : il asperge du piment en poudre dans les yeux d'un jakartaman et le poignarde pour lui voler sa moto
Twenty-four-year-old mason G. Mancor appeared before the criminal chamber of the Thiès High Court on Tuesday, March 10. Originally from Ziguinchor, he is being prosecuted for attempted robbery with a weapon and violence resulting in a 28-day temporary incapacity for work (ITT).
The events date back to January 7, 2024, in Thiès. On that day, the defendant had requested a ride from the victim, A. Bâ, a motorcycle taxi driver, to Keur Thième Souaré. During the journey, G. Mancor deliberately dropped a 1,000 FCFA note before asking the driver to pick it up to save time.
Taking advantage of this moment of inattention, he sprayed chili powder in the Jakartaman's eyes before attempting to grab his motorcycle keys and flee. But A. Bâ resisted, triggering a violent altercation between the two men.
During the fight, G. Mancor pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the hand. A. Bâ tried to flee, but was pursued by his attacker, who stabbed him twice in the back, causing him to fall.
The unexpected arrival of an L200-type vehicle finally forced the assailant to flee. Without this intervention, the outcome could have been far more tragic. The passersby managed to apprehend the suspect before handing him over to the officers at the Parcelles Assainies police station in Thiès. G. Mancor was subsequently remanded in custody.
In the dock of the criminal chamber of the Thiès High Court, the defendant admitted to the facts. He confessed to wanting to steal A. Bâ's motorcycle and to stabbing him, stating that he had not intended to kill him but to dissuade him from abandoning the motorcycle. He claimed to have stabbed the plaintiff to prevent her from causing him further harm after she had struck him in the head with a stone.
The deputy prosecutor stated that the attempted robbery and violence were clearly established. He emphasized that the defendant had premeditated his actions, equipping himself with a knife with the intention of stealing the victim's motorcycle.
According to him, had it not been for the unexpected arrival of an L200-type vehicle, the outcome of this attack could have been fatal. Given the seriousness of the acts and the circumstances surrounding their commission, he therefore asked the court to convict the defendant for his actions.
The verdict is scheduled for April 14, 2026.
