Fisherman M. Faye appeared before the Thiès court on Wednesday on charges of theft. According to the prosecution, the defendant, intoxicated after leaving the Chez Gora bar, entered Mr. Diène's home and went into a bedroom before searching a wardrobe for valuables. The shouts of "Thief!" from the household caused him to flee. He was apprehended and handed over to the police.
In court, Mr. Faye denied the accusations. He explained that he was simply returning home after leaving the bar when he was accosted by a group of individuals who accused him of theft before beating him up.
But his denials did not prevent the public prosecutor from requesting a sentence of two years imprisonment, including four months of mandatory imprisonment.
The court has taken the case under advisement.
