Thiès : Le coup fumant du faux client qui s'enfuit avec des dizaines de poulets !
The Thiès court examined, on Monday, May 4, a case of alleged theft of broiler chickens involving O. Guèye. He is accused of stealing several chickens belonging to A. Ndiaye, a poultry farmer residing in the Grand Standing neighborhood.
According to the evidence in the case file, the defendant traveled from the Hersent neighborhood to the victim's home to "buy" chickens. Once there, he ordered dozens of birds and helped himself.
When it came time to pay, he explained that his money was in his Wave account and that he needed to make a withdrawal. The saleswoman then asked him to wait while she got ready so she could accompany him to the transfer point. Taking advantage of this moment of inattention, O. Guèye fled with the chickens.
Upon realizing he was missing, the victim immediately alerted the neighbors. Local youths attempted to apprehend the suspect, but he resisted and managed to escape. A chase ensued. He was eventually caught by several individuals at a motorcycle taxi stop and handed over to the police.
In court, the defendant denied the charges, claiming he had not committed any theft. He maintained, in particular, that he had not been apprehended in possession of the chickens. However, a witness indicated that the chickens were recovered and returned to the plaintiff.
In light of the circumstances, the public prosecutor requested that the charges be reduced from theft to attempted theft. He sought a two-month prison sentence. The court adjourned the case for deliberation. The verdict is expected on May 11, 2026.
