Thiès: Potato shortage in the middle of the Christmas festivities

Thiès : pénurie de pommes de terre en pleine fête de Noël

Potatoes have been unavailable in Thiès markets for several days. From Moussanté to the Grand Central Market, passing through Grand-Thiès, Kheulgueu, Sham, and the Nguélaw market, traders are lamenting the shortage, which has lasted for five days. A kilogram sells for 800 FCFA.

They point to flaws in market regulation and suggest a misunderstanding between the Minister of Trade and the manager of a storage plant in Mbane.

This shortage comes at a time when the Christian community is celebrating Christmas. Many households have had to resort to supermarkets to stock up.

According to some wholesalers, "the new shipment announced at the Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD) reassures neither consumers nor traders. Currently, the bag is sold for 10,000 FCFA."

Potatoes and onions are important for th preparation of delicious meals, especially in these circumstances of Christmas festivals. Usually, women cook meat and use peas, potatoes, onions and garlic. It is therefore crucial for the authorities to guarantee the supply of some ingredients, for the happiness of the consumers.

Pourquoi de façon générale le Sénégal est-il si cher?!

A mon avis les gens qui ont un peu d'espace devraient développer un potager chez eux. Leur vie changera drastiquement.

L'article est en dessous de la réalité. Lundi le sac coûtait 19000 et le kilo était a 1000 au détail. C'est abusé
