Thiès : Un berger tente de mettre fin à ses jours devant une mosquée de Takhikao
A tragedy was narrowly averted in the Takhikao district of the Thiès-Nord municipality. Amadou, a shepherd in his sixties, attempted to take his own life in the early hours of the morning in front of a mosque.
According to witnesses, the man, carrying a rope, headed towards the mosque as worshippers trickled in. Taking advantage of the dim light, he reportedly tied the rope to an exterior structure of the place of worship with the firm intention of hanging himself.
But fate had other plans: a young man from the neighborhood, who was smoking a cigarette nearby, was drawn to the shepherd's unusual behavior. Approaching him, he quickly realized the seriousness of the situation and alerted the neighbors who promptly subdued Amadou.
In the neighborhood where emotions remain high, people are still wondering what drove this family man, portrayed as a discreet and hardworking man, to want to end his life.
