Thiès : Une intrusion dans la chambre de la "Awa" vire à la bagarre sanglante entre coépouses
The Thiès court examined on Monday a case of violence involving two co-wives, K. Seck and O. Sylla, prosecuted for mutual intentional assault and battery following an altercation against the backdrop of a marital conflict.
According to the evidence presented to the court, the incident occurred when the second wife, O. Sylla, entered the bedroom of the first wife, K. Seck, while the latter was there with their husband, M. Karé. K. Seck deemed this intrusion inappropriate and asked her to leave.
When his co-wife refused to comply, an argument broke out, quickly escalating into a fight. The two women came to blows, each inflicting injuries on the other. O. Sylla notably bit her co-wife, who retaliated in kind.
Following the altercation, K. Seck obtained a medical certificate indicating a 15-day period of temporary incapacity for work (ITT) and filed a complaint. O. Sylla also contacted the police, presenting a medical certificate attesting to a 10-day period of ITT. Both women were arrested and subsequently remanded in custody.
In court, K. Seck maintained his version of events, claiming that his co-wife was responsible for the incident by refusing to leave her room. O. Sylla, for his part, acknowledged his share of responsibility and apologized to the court.
The public prosecutor deemed the facts established and requested the application of the law. At the conclusion of the proceedings, the court found the two co-wives guilty of assault and battery. They were each sentenced to a suspended fine of 20,000 FCFA.
