Tivaouane : Un commando armé dévalise des commerçants et emporte 15 millions FCFA
It was at dawn, around 5 a.m., on March 3, 2026, in the Keur Ndiobo neighborhood of the religious city of Tivaouane, that about ten heavily armed individuals broke into the family home of two well-known local merchants to commit a robbery. They managed to loot the house after assaulting its occupants, making off with 15 million CFA francs.
Some sources report an operation carried out by assailants who broke into the residence. They reportedly surprised the occupants in their sleep before violently attacking them. One of the victims is said to have sustained head injuries. After subduing the family members, the perpetrators allegedly stole a large sum of money estimated at 15 million FCFA. They then fled in a 4x4 vehicle belonging to the merchants.
Officers from the Tivaouane urban police station went to the scene to conduct the usual investigations. An inquiry has been opened. This latest attack has brought back to the forefront the worrying rise in insecurity in the religious city, where calls for increased patrols in the municipality are growing. On several occasions, the Caliph General of the Tijaniyya order, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, has advocated for the construction of a second police station in the city of Maodo.
