Touba : le « commando à la Peugeot bleue » qui terrorisait la ville enfin hors d'état de nuire
During the night of May 12-13, 2026, the Ndamatou District Police Station put an end to the activities of a dangerous gang of criminals who had been terrorizing several neighborhoods of Touba for several months.
In the lead-up to Ramadan 2026, residents of several areas of Touba lived in fear. The neighborhoods of Ndamatou, Sékhawga, Nguiranène, Darou Marnane, Yonou Darou, Tally Boubess, and the Serigne Modou waterfront were regularly plagued by the same scenes of violence. A group of five individuals would appear in a vehicle and violently rob citizens at gunpoint.
Aware that they were being actively sought following numerous reports, the suspects had meanwhile abandoned their original grey Peugeot 406 in favour of a blue Peugeot 307, hoping to throw investigators off the scent.
During a nighttime security operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Brigade in the Sékhawga district, officers noticed a blue Peugeot 307 parked in the shadows. Upon approaching, the police discovered that the occupants had deliberately coated the license plate with a mixture of sand and water to render it illegible. Strategically positioned at an intersection offering several escape routes, the five suspects were clearly waiting for the opportune moment to strike their next victims. The immediate intervention of the Criminal Investigation Brigade allowed them to neutralize the entire group without incident.
A thorough search of the vehicle yielded damning evidence. Two machetes had been carefully concealed under the rear seats, and two partially smoked marijuana joints were also found inside. When questioned at the scene, the suspects were unable to provide any credible explanation for their large and armed presence at such a late hour.
Several victims were summoned to the police station for questioning. During a suspect presentation, the driver, described as light-skinned, and his four accomplices were formally and unambiguously identified by their victims. The seized vehicle was also identified as the one used in the attacks.
The profile of those involved: notorious repeat offenders
Checks against the central database revealed the true profiles of those arrested. The five individuals are notorious repeat offenders, having previously been brought before the Public Prosecutor's Office for similar crimes. They are now being prosecuted for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery committed at night, concealing license plates, and possession and use of narcotics. Placed in police custody following their arrest, they will soon be brought before the Public Prosecutor's Office in Diourbel.
