On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the town of Touba Tranquille, in the Kataba 1 district (Bignona department), hosted the official ceremony marking the launch of operations to demarcate the border between Senegal and The Gambia. This event, which took place in a peaceful atmosphere, brought together nearly 300 participants, including administrative, military, territorial, and traditional authorities from both countries.

Officials were keen to clarify that this is not a redrawing of borders, but rather a clarification and reinforcement of existing boundaries. This approach aims to prevent disputes, strengthen trust between communities, and ensure peaceful management of territorial limits.

The mayor of Kataba 1, while welcoming a long-awaited initiative, recalled the persistent difficulties of his municipality, particularly in terms of access to basic social services, inviting the authorities to support the population in their daily needs.

General Boucounta Camara emphasized the technical nature of the operation, stressing that it in no way undermines the historical, cultural, and fraternal ties that bind the communities on both sides. He called on the inhabitants to maintain their spirit of good neighborliness and to strengthen peaceful coexistence, considered a pillar of regional stability.
