The Dakar gendarmerie's research unit dismantled a network trafficking in abortifacients and counterfeit international vaccination certificates. The network members, Mr. Diassé, MY Anne, Mr. Ngom, and AA Sy, were tried this Monday in the Dakar court for flagrant offenses on charges of illegally practicing as pharmacists, forgery, and use of forged administrative documents.

In court, only Mr. Diassé admitted to the charges against them. His co-defendants contested the charges. As for Mr. Ngom, who had been granted provisional release, he did not appear at the hearing.

The public prosecutor has requested three months of imprisonment for all the defendants and a fine of 200,000 CFA francs.

The events date back to December 26, 2025, following reports of clandestine activities related to the sale of prohibited medications, including misoclear, misodia, and misoprostol. These products, diverted from their intended medical use, are often used to induce abortions, in violation of current legislation.

A surveillance operation was set up in Grand-Yoff, where the gendarmes arrested MY Anne, described as an intermediary. During questioning, he cooperated by identifying his supplier.

The investigation led detectives to Keur Mbaye Fall, where Mr. Diassé was caught red-handed during a delivery. A search revealed a sum of money corresponding to the purchase price of the medications.

The search of his room resulted in the seizure of 22 blister packs of prohibited medication as well as ten falsified international vaccination booklets.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Mr. Ngom and AA Sy, who were selling counterfeit international vaccination certificates. They admitted to selling these documents, either blank or already stamped with forged seals, to prospective travelers.

At the end of the defense arguments, presented by lawyers Fadel Diack and Ababacar Cissé, the court sentenced the defendants to one year of suspended imprisonment .
