Tribunal de Thiès : Un conflit polygamique vire aux violences conjugales
The Thiès District Court was the scene on Monday of a tense confrontation between Mr. A. Ciss and his second wife, F. Fofana. The latter brought her husband to court on charges of violence and assault, accusing him of hitting her with a stick and destroying her mobile phone during a fit of jealousy.
In court, the plaintiff maintained that her husband had caught her on the phone while she was speaking to her boss to complain about his behavior. It was at this point, she claimed, that A. Ciss flew into a rage, accusing her of talking to a lover before committing the act.
The defendant, however, offered a completely different version of events. While he admitted to the assault, he cited frustration stemming from managing his polygamous household. He claimed he acted because his second wife was trying to prevent him from fulfilling his marital duties to his first wife. According to the defendant, F. Fofana is consumed by pathological jealousy and has lost all self-confidence, adding that divorce proceedings are already underway.
Faced with these conflicting accounts, the public prosecutor determined that the acts of violence were consistent and requested that the law be applied to the husband. The court adjourned the case for deliberation until January 5, 2026.
