The Rufisque central police station's urban security unit carried out a major drug bust on the night of May 8-9, 2026. Three individuals were arrested on Rufisque beach as they were unloading a large shipment of cannabis from Kafountine. Prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa was informed of the incident.

It all started with information exploited by the urban security forces under the command of Commissioner Daour Ndoye. It reported the arrival of a shipment of Indian hemp transported by sea from Kafountine in Casamance.

This is how the police set up a targeted surveillance and tracking system around the beach in Rufisque.

Three suspects caught red-handed at 4:35 a.m.

In the early hours of May 9, 2026, at 4:35 a.m., officers from the investigation unit moved in and apprehended three individuals caught in the act on the beach. They were formally identified during their transport to the police station. The first, CB Fall, 30 years old, is a fisherman residing in Thiokho. The second, D. Diop, 21 years old, is also a fisherman. The third, M. Guèye, 20 years old, is a welder.

At the time of their arrest, the three suspects were in possession of 150 blocks of Indian hemp weighing 1.250 kg, for a total weight of 187.5 kg according to Seneweb sources.

In addition to the drugs, investigators also seized the outboard motor of the pirogue used to transport the illicit goods, as well as jerrycans of gasoline. All of these items have been placed under separate seal. The pirogue itself remains impounded on the beach at Rufisque.

The three suspects were taken into custody on May 9, 2026 at 4:35 a.m. They will face charges of criminal conspiracy, possession and trafficking of Indian hemp.
