Villas, terrains et haschisch : les dessous d’un dossier impliquant un émigré sénégalais
A Senegalese emigrant returning to his country after living in Mantes-la-Jolie, Mr. Guèye, and his co-defendant, A. Diouf, appeared before the Pikine-Guédiawaye Criminal Court on charges of criminal conspiracy, international drug trafficking, money laundering, and illegal possession of a firearm. The case came to light after the dismantling of a Franco-Senegalese network by the Central Office for the Suppression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS) and the French police, thanks to a "controlled delivery" operation of a package from France containing 400 grams of hashish concealed in a karaoke machine. According to the prosecution, roles were divided between individuals based in France and others responsible for receiving the package in Senegal, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing.
Beyond drug trafficking and possession of a firearm without a permit, the same source indicates that the prosecutor's office strongly suspects money laundering. The public prosecutor's office, quoted by the daily newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM), believes that the emigrant's real estate holdings – including villas, land, and an apartment building – are disproportionate to his declared income in France, which amounts to approximately 3,000 euros per month, or nearly 2 million CFA francs.
In court, the accused denied any involvement in a criminal network, claiming he had simply done A. Diouf a favor by giving him a ride. His defense maintains that Diouf, tried in absentia, used hashish solely to alleviate the aftereffects of a stroke. To definitively dismiss the money laundering charges, the lawyers mocked the scant evidence, which consisted of only three cell phones, two computers, 300,000 CFA francs in cash, and a Citroën car.
However, considering the charges sufficiently substantiated, the prosecutor requested a ten-year prison sentence, a fine of 5 million CFA francs, and the confiscation of all assets targeted by the investigation. The defense pleaded for acquittal or, failing that, a reduction of the charges to simple drug possession. The verdict is expected on July 7, according to Gfm.
