Violences à l’UCAD : La Nouvelle responsabilité condamne et appelle à un retour au dialogue
The New Responsibility (NR) strongly condemned the violence that occurred at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), which resulted in the tragic death of student Abdoulaye Ba and left several injured among the university community.
In a statement, former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, president of the NR, expressed his profound sadness at the gravity of the events unfolding on campus and his firm condemnation of all forms of violence on university grounds. The political movement offered its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and extended its sympathy to all students in Senegal. It also offered prayers for the repose of the soul of the departed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
According to the NR, only a calm university environment can allow the normal resumption of teaching, research activities and, more broadly, academic life.
"However, she wishes to express her deepest concern regarding this deteriorating situation. She calls on the State authorities to renounce all forms of violence on university campuses and urges students to remain open to dialogue and consultation in order to allow the restoration, as soon as possible, of a climate of peace conducive to the resumption of teaching, research activities and all those related to university life," the statement said.
Furthermore, the New Responsibility calls on the government to fully assume its responsibilities by guaranteeing the regular functioning of the public higher education service, in secure universities, but respectful of academic freedoms.
