Vol de munitions à la base militaire de Thiès : Deux hommes arrêtés par la gendarmerie
F. Camara and M. Sow appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses on charges of stealing ammunition from the Thiès military base. F. Camara is being prosecuted for theft, and his co-defendant for receiving stolen goods.
According to the investigation, F. Camara, who was working on a construction site inside the military base, had stolen a bag of ammunition. He then gave the bullets to Mr. Sow to sell.
It was during the attempted sale that Mr. Sow was apprehended by the gendarmerie. The investigation led to the identification and arrest of F. Camara, presented as the main perpetrator.
In court, F. Camara denied the theft charge. "I had a work site in the camp. After finishing, I found a bag containing ammunition nearby. I picked it up and left with it. When I arrived at a coffee vendor's house, I showed the bag to Lamine. He told me they were rifle bullets and offered to sell them to me. So I gave him the bag to sell," he explained.
For his part, Mr. Sow, prosecuted for receiving stolen goods, maintained that he was unaware of the ammunition's fraudulent origin. "I am a motorcycle taxi driver. I was transporting a man named Laye who had the ammunition. I didn't touch the bag. This man managed to escape, leaving the bag with me," he stated.
The public prosecutor determined that theft had been committed against F. Camara and that Mr. Sow's denials were unfounded, emphasizing that the alleged Laye mentioned by the latter did not exist. He requested a three-month prison sentence for F. Camara and a two-month sentence for Mr. Sow.
In the end, the court sentenced F. Camara to three months in prison, and M. Sow to one month.
