The High Court of Kaffrine has delivered its verdict in a theft case involving bags of onions and potatoes, implicating two defendants, A. Th. and MB
In court, A. Th. stated that he had purchased the merchandise from MB. This version of events was completely contested by MB, who denied any involvement. In his closing argument, the public prosecutor requested MB's acquittal based on reasonable doubt. Conversely, he requested a guilty verdict for A. Th. and the full force of the law.
Partially following these recommendations, the court acquitted MB and found A. Th. guilty. The latter was sentenced to two years in prison, with three months to be served. The defendant must also pay 408,000 CFA francs to the plaintiff as damages.
