Vols d'appareils électroménagers : la chute du gang des vigiles, mauvaise nouvelle pour une ASC de quartier
Following patient surveillance, gendarmes from the Faidherbe research brigade have put an end to the activities of a network of security guards who, for nearly a year, methodically looted the stock of household appliances from Ebs Electro Business, the exclusive distributor of the "Astech" brand in Senegal. The damage is estimated at more than 54 million CFA francs, according to L'Observateur.
It all began when a large number of "Astech" televisions were spotted on the black market at ridiculously low prices. Alerted, the company filed a complaint, providing investigators with a suspicious phone number. To confound the receivers, the police faked orders from a merchant, Ch. Dieng, who was eventually arrested in the act with an accomplice, the same source explains.
The Future Media Group's daily newspaper continued: under pressure, the trader initially mentioned trafficking in Gambia before admitting that the televisions came from a former warehouse guard, S. Kandé. A search of his home in Dougar uncovered a large stockpile of stolen equipment. Arrested, Kandé admitted the facts and denounced his former colleague, Y. Baldé, the current warehouse guard, accused of orchestrating the scheme.
The investigation showed that the thefts were carried out without forced entry: the security guards isolated the televisions in a discreet corner of the company's warehouse located in the Diamniadio urban center before selling them on the black market, via a network of fences. Ironically, part of the loot was used to finance the S. Kandé neighborhood ASC, which posed as a benefactor by regularly equipping its football team.
During the searches, 44 televisions were seized. In police custody, some of the accused shifted responsibility, each accusing the other of being the mastermind of the affair.
So far, four suspects - S. Kandé, Y. Baldé, M. Baldé, and Ch. Dieng - have been referred to the public prosecutor's office for criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen goods. However, three other security guards, identified as accomplices, are still on the run and are being actively sought by the gendarmerie, the same source added.
