Ziguinchor : "38% de ménages ne dispose pas de toilettes", Ministre Cheikh Tidiane Dieye

Niassya, in the Ziguinchor department, hosted the ceremony celebrating World Toilet Day. The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, accompanied by his counterpart in charge of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, in the presence of administrative and local authorities of the region.

According to the Minister of Water and Sanitation, 1.8 million Senegalese living in rural areas still practice open defecation, citing the 2023 report from the National Agency for Statistics and Demography. In the Ziguinchor region, 38% of households do not have access to improved sanitation services.

"In Senegal, the 2023 report from the National Agency for Statistics and Demography indicates that nearly 2 million of our fellow citizens, including approximately 1.8 million people in rural areas, continue to resort to this practice of open defecation. And in the Ziguinchor region where we are today, the same report indicates that nearly 38% of households still do not have access to improved sanitation services," said Minister Cheikh Tidiane Dieye.

It indicates that this data shows how access to adequate health infrastructure remains a challenge to improving quality of life, preserving human dignity and preventing disease while preserving or protecting the environment.

Returning to the chosen theme, "Sanitation in a Changing World," Cheikh Tidiane Dièye affirms that it is more than a call to action. "It is above all a call for collective and united commitment to make sanitation a catalyst for sustainable development and an essential lever for resilience in the face of the effects of climate change," the minister declared.

Ziguinchor est pauvre et le passage de Sonko à la mairie l'a rendu encore plus pauvre. C'est la capitale des moutons de Pasteef. Ils attendent que Sonko vient leur sortir de la pauvreté. Ils rêvent debout '
