The housing development on the outskirts of Ziguinchor continues to generate controversy and raise concerns and misunderstandings. Despite numerous warnings and complaints from various neighborhoods, residents are struggling to obtain concrete answers from the municipal authorities. In Diabir, young people have taken a stand to once again sound the alarm.

For Serigne Thiam Diédhiou, an official committed to the development of Diabir and spokesperson for the day, "soon this neighborhood will be like Néma 2".

Located on the outskirts of the town, Diabir is experiencing, according to its residents, haphazard urbanization. Houses are springing up here and there, without any real planning. From the air, the neighborhood gives the impression of a rapidly expanding area, but without clear direction, the young people of the area point out.

"The subdivision problem has not yet been resolved and this is causing quite a lot of upheaval, in addition to hindering the development of the neighborhood," according to Serigne Diédhiou.

The difficulties are numerous. The "impassable" roads complicate daily travel, especially during the rainy season. "The roads are impassable and people build as they please," he complained, denouncing a deplorable situation.

Appeals that went unanswered

Faced with these difficulties, the young people claim to have undertaken several actions to attract the attention of the municipal authorities, but without success. "We shouted, we wrote requests for a meeting, but the mayor never received us," laments Serigne Thiam Diédhiou.

Another cause for concern: the neighborhood's community center is still a temporary shelter. This reality, according to residents, illustrates the delay in the neighborhood's development.
