2026 World Cup: Iranian players report to the US embassy in Ankara

At least four players and one staff member of the Iranian football team showed up Thursday at the US embassy in Turkey, Ankara, to submit their visa applications for the World Cup (June 11-July 19), an AFP photographer observed.

The Iranian team arrived Monday in Antalya, on the southern coast of Turkey, to prepare for the 2026 World Cup which is to take them to the United States, amidst the conflict between Tehran and Washington.

Four players dressed in navy blue tracksuits and one of their companions, in a black tracksuit, arrived early in the morning in front of the American embassy in Ankara, an AFP photographer observed.

Other players are expected to visit the Canadian embassy, the vice-president of the Iranian Football Federation announced on Tuesday, saying he was "very confident" about the team's preparations.

Iran's team, which will play at least one friendly match in Turkey against Gambia on May 29, is scheduled to play its three World Cup group stage matches on American soil.
