Retrait du titre de Champion d’Afrique 2025 : Le gouvernement du Sénégal réagit officiellement
Through Marie Rose Khady Fatou Faye, Secretary of State and Government Spokesperson, the Republic of Senegal published a statement in reaction to the decision of the appeals jury of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to reassign the title of the 2025 AFCON to Morocco.
A decision deemed illegal and unfair
The government expresses its "deep dismay" at a decision it describes as:
- Illegal and unfair: Dakar believes that the appeals jury made a manifestly erroneous interpretation of the regulations.
- Contrary to sporting ethics: The statement recalls that the title was won on the field, in compliance with the rules of the game, and that this questioning undermines the principles of fairness and "truth on the field".
Faced with what it considers an "unjustified attempt at dispossession," Senegal announces a response on the judicial and institutional fronts:
- Request for an independent investigation into suspected corruption within the CAF.
- Appeals to all competent bodies, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), in order to restore the primacy of the sporting result.
The statement takes a more political turn by mentioning the human consequences of the final:
- The government reaffirms its solidarity with the Senegalese detained in Morocco following the incidents that occurred.
- He assures total mobilization to obtain a quick and favorable outcome for these nationals.
A firm and inflexible position
"Senegal will remain resolute, vigilant and inflexible in defending the rights of the national team and in restoring the honor of African sport," the statement concluded.
