Frontière sénégalo-malienne : Le GARSI 2 neutralise un site d’orpaillage clandestin sur le Falémé
The detachment of the GARSI 2 Rapid Action Surveillance and Intervention Group deployed in an advanced post at the village of Moussala, carried out, on March 12, 2026, an operation to dismantle illegal gold mining sites on the Senegalese bank of the Falémé river, near the village of Médina Moussala.
According to the information gathered, it follows a report of illegal gold mining activities in this border area with Mali.
The gendarmes then descended on the area. Upon seeing them, the illegal miners fled across the river to the Malian side, abandoning a significant amount of equipment used for gold extraction. Seven motor pumps and 21 dredges were destroyed, stated Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.
The gendarmerie reminds the public that its call centre remains accessible free of charge at the numbers 800 00 20 20 and 123 for any useful information or report.
