Rapport annuel de la Police : Mame Seydou Ndour dévoile les succès et les nouveaux périls
The Senegalese National Police presented its 2025 annual activity report on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Addressing the press, the force presented a document outlining the actions undertaken during the past year and setting priorities for the coming years. Following this, the Director General of the National Police, Mame Seydou Ndour, emphasized "the need to strengthen transparency and trust between the security forces and the public."
According to the police chief, this report is not merely a compilation of statistics. It constitutes an essential instrument of institutional accountability. "This document reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting transparency, strengthening the quality of public security services, and consolidating trust between the National Police and the populations it is tasked with protecting," declared Mame Seydou Ndour at the presentation ceremony.
Increasingly complex security threats
The Director General of Police noted that 2025 unfolded against a backdrop of increasingly complex and proliferating security threats. "Terrorism, cybercrime, and illicit trafficking are constantly evolving and reshaping themselves, demanding unwavering vigilance from the security forces," he stated. Despite these challenges, Mame Seydou Ndour believes that "Senegal remains a pillar of stability in the sub-region, thanks to a strategic vision where security is a cornerstone of development and the rule of law."
Among the major concerns raised in the report is the evolution of the drug market, marked by the emergence of new psychotropic substances. "This worrying evolution of the drug market is marked by the emergence of new psychotropic substances that are highly harmful to young people," warned the head of the National Police. According to him, this situation constitutes both a public safety and public health problem, requiring increased mobilization of all stakeholders.
Encouraging results
The report also highlights encouraging results in several areas. Traffic accidents saw a significant decrease in 2025 compared to the previous year in areas under the jurisdiction of the National Police. Another positive development is the significant reduction in irregular departures from the country, a result of strategies implemented to combat illegal immigration and strengthened international cooperation.
As part of the 2025-2029 strategic plan, the National Police is continuing its transformation. This momentum is reflected in particular by the opening of new police stations in several locations across the country to strengthen police presence and improve security coverage. Beyond operational resources, Mame Seydou Ndour emphasized the importance of trust between the police and the public. "The National Police intends to strengthen community policing through more active communication with citizens, educational initiatives in schools, and the implementation of specific support services for certain categories of victims," explained the police chief. He highlighted that interview rooms dedicated to victims of gender-based violence have been established in some police stations.
Three priorities for the future
For the coming years, the National Police has set three major priorities: “improving the legal framework and strengthening human resources, modernizing infrastructure and operational capabilities, and improving the quality of service to users through digitalization. A national doctrine for maintaining and restoring public order is also being developed to better guide the actions of the security forces.” The Director General paid tribute to the police officers who ensure the country's security on a daily basis. “I would like to commend the women and men of the National Police who, day and night, ensure the safety of people and property throughout the country,” declared Mame Seydou Ndour.
